Therapy for First Responders
If you’re a first responder, whether that be a police officer, a firefighter, or an EMT/paramedic, you carry a heavy burden. Your job is demanding in ways that other jobs simply are not. There’s long hours, lots of stress, and truly life or death situations. There are challenges that are unique to your profession and it’s important to have a therapist who understands this.
If you’re here on this page, you’re looking for help.

Maybe the challenges of the job are making your relationships harder.
Maybe you’ve seen some… stuff.
Maybe you’re just not feeling like yourself. You’re angry. Irritable. Ready to fly off the handle at a moment’s notice, and sick and tired of feeling that way.
Whatever it is, I can help.
I’m Dr Belinda Barnett. I’ve dedicated my entire adult life to helping people going through the same challenges you are. I worked with the Veterans Administration for over eighteen years on some of the most difficult cases there are.
For many years I was also a volunteer EMT. I responded to dozens of calls and provided life saving treatment. I know what it’s like to be incredibly bored as you’re on stand by for calls, only to be jolted into action and to deal with a patient’s complex trauma. I’ve been there.
And I know how difficult those experiences can make everyday life.
I also know how hard it can be to seek help – first responders are tough and they are the helpers! They’re not ones to seek help themselves. And what would their partners and colleagues think if they ever heard?

The ability to work through the challenges you face and speak openly about them is not weakness – it is strength. It takes courage and discipline to intentionally find the parts of you that are hurting, explore them, and heal them. Therapy, done well, is far from easy. It is transformative.
The first step in healing is admitting you need some help. If you’re here, you’re looking for that help. Congratulations! You’re already through one of the hardest parts.
The next step is learning how to get your life back on track.
I can teach you techniques that can help you quiet your mind and stop the racing thoughts from tearing through your consciousness. I can help you set reasonable goals and provide you the accountability and encouragement to help you meet them.
I can help you live a life you’ve dreamed of.
All you have to do now is take that first step of contacting me. I offer a free, no obligation initial consultation where you can get to know me a little bit. Your consultation and any future meetings are completely confidential – no one else need ever know. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain. I can’t wait to work with you.
If you’re in an immediate crisis, I urge you to reach out to one of these wonderful organizations that can help:
I can help.
Therapy has been proven to be effective. Not only does study after study show this, but I know this to be true from my own first hand experience. I’ve been working for more than twenty years to help people overcome their challenges.

And I can help.
I am a down-to-earth person who will treat you as an equal. I do not see the therapeutic relationship as doctor-patient, but rather two people working together. I have book knowledge and clinical training, but you have the knowledge of yourself. My aim is for us to work together to help solve your problems.
The first step in that process is to contact me. Easy, right?
